Fish of San Diego: For this stand we learned about the native fish of the lagoon and their natural habitat. We leaned about how the past and recent pollution has affected the health and size of the fish, and how this can be helped. We also got to touch the fish, snails, and wild plants that are found in a natural environment.
Mammal Skulls: For this stand we learned about all the wildlife found in a habitat like the San Dieguito Lagoon. We got to match toy animals with real animal skulls, and then learn about that animal individually; and what part they play in the wild. Some common animals found in an environment like this are coyotes, owls, hawks, mice & rats, hummingbirds, and snakes.
Birding: For this stand we used our above knowledge to look for wildlife out on the lagoon. We used binoculars to look for birds, and other animals.
Water Quality: For this stand we learned about different pH, bacteria, turbidity and other elements in the lagoon water, and how to test for them. We learned that a pH of 7 is the average and best pH for the lagoon, and pH's above or below that could be harmful for humans.
